Dear Prayer Warriors,
I always feel like a million dollars when my bride strolls up
to Target for my lunch break. Rather than text me “I’m up front”, she’ll go to
the dairy or frozen aisles as a guest to give me the surprise of her presence
and the joyful entourage of our kids. I always introduce them to anyone working
with me, it’s the kind of thing that I love but Lindsey just rolls her eyes at.
After
such a visit, I returned to stocking the yogurt with a
young team member curious about having met Anna for the first time. This
young
worker has the aim of becoming a nurse and is a nominal Christian. So, I
told
her Anna’s birth story. I know many special need’s parents grieve and
hate
recounting the trauma of such events. However, it’s by God’s grace and
work in
me that I never hesitate to give God glory for the Rescuer He was for
Anna. It’s
not a stroll down memory lane, it’s a stroll down miracle way. As I was
retelling Anna’s birth to my coworker, I recalled so many miracles and
mercies.
What meets the eye is a disabled girl, but therein lies God's
faithfulness to thousands of answered prayer over almost 5 years of
asking.
I find it interesting that Israel was often told to remember
what God had done for them. Today I find myself in a time of spiritual dryness,
left hungry to hear God’s faithfulness to the saints, it’s so encouraging (good
for me that the Bible is full of these stories too). I love sharing the stories
of His glories in my life. Perhaps it’s a bridge into this modern-day society
that idolizes experiences. In my walk with Jesus I know testimony sharing an important spiritual
practice to cultivate.
The Spirit reminds me that Satan, the accuser, is overcome in
the believer by the “blood of the Lamb and the words of their testimony.” (Revelation
12:11) Therefore allow me to tell of the hospital Anna was born at that didn’t
have a NICU, but how God provided a visiting Neonatologist on that snowy morning
who just happened to be visiting another child in the nursery when Anna needed
to be born. The best of the best scrubbed in, bagged, and intubated Anna. Or How
Anna wasn’t responding to the various blood pressure medications during the
first two days of her life and she had reached the ceiling of medications that
could be given. She needed to respond… we surrendered her to the Lord, and
within 12 hours her little body responded. Let’s not forget the miraculous brain
surgery at 6 weeks to place the shunt. We grieved needing to make such a
decision and prayed for Anna’s ventricles to activate. I didn’t want it for my
daughter, then like a peace that passes all understanding, God helped me see
the shunt as a lifegiving provision and Jesus even gave us His peace and fellow
saints to pray with us during the surgery.
To God be the glory, through this big tear-soaked storm I never lost my praise of Him and the
joy of being a first-time parent was my countenance at her bedside. Allow me to get back to prayer requests for
Anna.
Please pray for:
-
Us
to be able to see the rehab doctor (physiatrist) and the dentist soon. We are behind
on our appointments to get Anna in and the scheduling window is in March. Perhaps
a cancellation would help us move up.
-
Anna’s
left ball-and-socket hip joint is showing indication of progressing towards dislocation.
Her legs ease into misalignment when left alone. High tone in her leg muscles
combined with not being weight bearing seem to exacerbate the issue. Can we
praise God for our located, well placed hip joints and ask Him to redirect Anna’s
femur ball into her hip socket?
-
Anna’s
wrists and hands to heal. We don’t have enough tricks up our sleeves to deny
her the self-soothing hand chewing (she does day and night). Grandma Has sewn
many wrist protectors but still many sores and skin tears from biting. May the
Lord cause us to engage her hands and arms to relearn intelligent productive
motion so that the habit of hand chewing would cease in Jesus name.
-
Vision
to see the world around her, to track objects instantaneously and to coordinate
her touch to what she sees. We still believe that restored vision would give
way to milestones in her physical therapy and occupational therapy. Jesus is so
good at giving sight, lets ask for an encore!

Another
night nurse to help us during this upcoming season with our soon-to-be-born 3rd.
We thank God for the nurses we have but we still need 3-4 nights covered.
Thank you for joining us in prayer for Anna,
The Currats
